I Am Green And Pretty. And You?
I am basically never outside without a camera. Sometimes I just carry a little point-and-shoot around, but more often than not I just sling the camera bag over my shoulder. Just in case, you know.
This “just in case” paid off today. A whole flock of parrots had congregated in my favorite silk floss tree to have a nibble at the fruit. A quick change of lenses later I just shot away:

Yummy!

And then I saw this sweet pair of parrots, not eating, just huddling up. Just watch that face – this little bird says: “I am green and pretty. And you?”

Strangely enough, I had to agree with this little critter – not being green is not pretty (in the parrot world of Los Angeles).

Aren’t they beautiful? Such a lovely change from sparrows!

Beautiful, lovely and loud! Before you see the parrots, you hear them. Always traveling in flocks, always screeching at the top of their lungs. The only quiet parrot is a sleeping parrot.
Or a pining one (if you are acquainted with the immortal series of Monty Pythons Flying Circus).

I love MPFC, but I don’t remember a pining parrot episode. Are those parrots or parakeets?

I hope I never get too old to learn. I looked up parakeet, and it turns out what we in the US call parakeets are actually budgerigars, and the parakeet is actually a parrot.
Parakeet

Oh yes, you do remember the episode, it is one of the most famous ones, the one where John Cleese takes his dead parrot back to the pet shop and the guy at the pet shop says: “He’s not dead, he’s just pining.”
