LAX has made it. It pushed Heathrow off the top position on my personal list of airports to be avoided at all times and under any circumstances.
Congratulations – not.
What’s so hideous about it? We have to go to San Francisco in Aug. My son keeps saying we’ll be much happier if we fly into Oakland, as SF is a mess.
LAX, just like the airport in SF, is overcrowded, understaffed and extremely badly organized. Especially noticeable is all of this when you come in from an international flight. Then the true horror of the places present themselves. A nice welcome to visitors from abroad…
Oakland is a nice alternative, your son is absolutely right, we use it when we go there. Burbank – Oakland, and forget LAX. The ride into town is a bit longer, but they have a wonderful public transport system over there, called BART, if I remember correctly. If you are staying right in town, you do not need a rental car. By all means, do consider flying into Oakland. And thank your son for the suggestion to go there.
