All diesels need to be converted. Used and cleaned veggie oil can be used as well to run vehicles. The technology is out there, but no one seems to care that much. Ah, well, when gasoline prices hit $6 a gallon, everyone will get on the alternate energy bandwagon, and that bandwagon will be pulled by horses.
We see the shift here already. Riding a bicycle is becoming more and more popular, small cars are everywhere (Minis and Smart cars) and scooters are the new big thing with younger people.
But that is CA for you – die-hard huge car lovers and people looking for alternatives are mingling everywhere. Now for a more wide-spread Public Transport System, and we are on the right way.
